Property was fine, but a bit rundown. I liked the comfortable common area and helpful staff, as well as the good price for a convenient location. I didn't like how cold my room was, with no extra blanket and no heating options.

The Cartwright Hotel is an amazing boutique property. It’s an older building, but it has been updated. The staff was polite, attentive and professional. Check in was quick and easy. The thing that attracted me to this hotel was the fact that they do not have the amenity fees that are common in most San Francisco hotels. The room was small, yet comfortable. Daily housekeeping was provided. The hotel is located in Union Square and is within walking distance of many restaurants. The area around the hotel is busy and you will see unhoused people. I never felt unsafe. Public transportation is available nearby. I would absolutely stay here again.

Quaint hotel, great location, very friendly staff

This is a quaint hotel just a few walking minutes from Union Square. Great location! The rooms aren't the newest, but that's ok for the price. It's San Francisco after all. The staff is very friendly and there is a quaint lobby with a fireplace on the second floor. We would definitely come again.

It was good that we stayed an additional night.

We originally planned a one-day trip but enjoyed San Francisco and the hotel so much that we decided to book another day. It's in a great location, close to shopping, museums, and the pier. The only negative aspect I would mention is that the bathroom is a bit small, but it's not a deal breaker.
