Good for a quick stay if traveling with minimal bags. This hotel check in process for us was simple as we checked in during normal business hours. I could see it being a pain after hours as the office does close in the evenings. The rooms were nice. Small but for a couple of nights it worked for us. The biggest issues with this hotel are the small flights of stairs to get to the rooms. They aren’t big enough to climb by yourself, much less having to tote piece of luggage or 2. Secondly would be the A\C issues. Or shall I say lack there of. Thankfully the weather was a bit chilly and we were able to open the windows to keep the room cool. Overall not a bad stay but not sure if I’d stay here again or try something different. Oh and the coffee machine gets locked up during the nights shifts as well. Being nothing in Amsterdam opens up early it would have been nice to grab a cup of coffee before venturing out.
Our stay was incredible. Our first time in Amsterdam, so a good hotel as a base was a must. The location, perfect. Close enough to all amenities, the canals, Centraal Station & Dam Square. All well within walking distance. The staff were incredible. Any questions we had they answered so informatively, and they were always so friendly. The view!! Stunning. Just what I had dreamed of when we booked the room. 11/10. Would absolutely recommend.
Small room for the price. Terrible staircase to get to the room. Shower was broken and making loud unbearable sound making it impossible to sleep. Keys left in the room were not working. Would not recommend.
I do not recommend Hegra Stanley Collection. Room 6 smells sewer. No elevator, tiny, narrow dangerous staircase with dirty carpet. The staff are not helpful and very curt. And what is not explained was city tax the charged in addition to what was paid per night. I’m not happy with Expedia for having this kind of place on their site as well.
The best part of our stay was the position of the hotel. It was perfectly central within walking distance of all the popular museums, bars and restaurants. The canal view from the room was 100% as shown on the booking site… lovely to wake up to in the morning. As others have said the stairs are very steep and shallow, but this is clearly addressed in the description so not a problem for us. If you want to stay in a period property this is to be expected.
Sadly the not so good part of our stay was the inexcusable lack of cleanliness. It was absolutely awful!
There was no housekeeping carried out during our stay other than a new toilet roll was replaced. We had to ask twice for clean towels.
The attached photographs show how utterly disgusting the room was. Totally unacceptable. We would have moved to a different hotel if we had £3000 euros spare at such short notice.
The stairs to the rooms are treacherous and not mentioned in the description

At least on Expedia it was not apparent that stairs lead to the front door, nor was it known about the ladder-like stairs to the second floor rooms. Additionally limited entry (door bell and then buzzing) as well as limited reception times were not apparent. My companion who has mobility issues just managed but I had to manage all luggage. Reception hours for coffee were posted as “every day” 9-6 but by 9:16 am the coffee machine (which was excellent by the way) was not available. The bed was very comfortable and the room and bath very clean, although small- typical in city hotels. The area is lovely, right on a canal and felt safe after dark. There was noise from the street that closed windows did not soften. We finally used a sound app to sleep.

Everything was lovely BUT our room. It was an attic room on the fourth floor with carpeted tiny, tiny steps that would only fit a foot turned sideways. When travellers like us are in our 70’s we should be forewarned. My husband slipped missing three steps and scraping his arm to bleeding. The room was so dirty under the bed I actually found a pill from a previous guest and don’t check the lumpy pillows - they are yellowed from sweat and drool. We loved Amsterdam and saw potential in this hotel … but would not recommend it as is.
The bathroom had mold on the tile in the shower and sink area. The room had poor ventilation & a fan was need to make it comfortable for sleeping and spending time in it.
We stayed in a room with 4 twin beds. It was on what they called the second floor. The stairs were very steep with out grab bars. The floor in the room was slanted, uneven. Bathroom had been closed up and had a terrible moldy smell.
I had an interesting experience with my stay having to check in late due to roofing repairs unable to access my room until 6pm. I was then woken up by men at my door coming back to repair the roof. The room itself was nice but will not be staying again, not worth $300 a night.
It was a nice space and the staff was very sweet. I do feel the stairs should be strongly mentioned in their story. No way my parents could have stayed there and we would have had to cancel and lost money. It was a very difficult climb.
We enjoyed our stay here, it was such a central location to everything. Staff was so friendly and helpful! I especially loved the coffee at the reception. Room was clean, I don't any complaints at all! I would definitely book again.
