Be prepared for steep stairs! I knew there wasn't an elevator, but staying on the fourth (US fifth) floor was a pretty steep hike. The room and bed were comfortable, though the TV didn't have a signal. The bathroom was a bit cramped, but the shower had great water pressure and hot water. There wasn't daily housekeeping in the room, which was fine for me, but FYI for others. I loved the convenience of the location -- it was close to a lot and super convenient, but on a quiet canal and so was nicely peaceful at night. It was also a lot closer to Waterlooplein than it seemed on the map, so that was a nice surprise when arriving. The room would be tight for two people, but wasn't too cramped for just me.

Within walking distance of attractions and lots of dining options which is why we booked this place. Friendly staff called a taxi for us many times ( It poured and we couldn’t walk to our destination). towel bars in bathroom are needed to reuse towels. Remove the chairs and put in a luggage holder. Inconvenient to always have to put suitcase on the bed to access contents.

Surprisingly disappointing

The only good things about this place are the location (of the hotel) and the friendly front desk lady staff. The hotel in general plus the room where we stayed at needs some major work to be considered hospitable and fit for any form of stay.

We knew there was no elevator and it was definitely an experience we laughed a lot about getting ourselves and our luggage up to the 5th floor. Just keep this in mind when booking.

This is an old facility with sub standard amenities. While the staff are helpful and the location interesting it doesn't make up for the fact that i feel ripped off, paying $AUD237 for a room worth less than half that. That Wotif would advertise such poor quality accommodation on its website makes me wary of trusting Wotif in future.

The location was nice. But the hotel was terrible. Our bathroom didn’t have a shower attached to the wall. It was just laying on the ground. And there was mold all over the bathroom because the water from the shower just spilled all over the entire bathroom floor and never dried up. And the toilet seat was broken. I knew from other reviews that there was no elevator. And the stairs were tight and steep, but that was expected and alright. But I couldn’t get over the bathroom and the mold. It made the whole situation unbearable so we actually checked out early and had to pay double to then stay at another hotel.

Know What You Are Getting

In order to fairly review this hotel, i have to set the level of expectation of the perspective traveler(s). First, Amsterdam is expensive during the high season, so keep that in mind. Of you have the money to stay in a nice place, by al means, do it. If you are a student traveler backing around Europe, this hotel will probably feel like a Four Seasons. If you are on a budget and want a mix of location and price, this hotel may work for you. What to expect if you book this hotel. The staff was great. They were extremely friendly and accommodating. The helped us with all of our questions and stored our luggage after we checked out. The next thing to expect is that there isn’t an elevator and the stairs are very steep and narrow. This is not the hotel for you if you have strength or mobility issues. Many buildings in Amsterdam are constructed this way (for a reason) so only the big hotels are likely to have an elevator. The rooms are small and the bathrooms are smaller. But, it was super convenient being able to brush my teeth and shave with a sink inside the shower!! The bed was comfortable but because the room didn’t have A/C, it was noisy because the windows were open. If you are a traveler that goes to a city to explore and experience, and you just need a clean bed and hot shower after being out all day and night, this is a good option. It was in a great location for walking to all of the sites. If you need to be spoiled and pampered, look elsewhere.

The hotel had a tired look about it. Our room was on the second floor and there is no lift. It didn't serve breakfast except on Sunday. Although the hotel is well located for a visit to Amsterdam, I probably wouldn't choose it again.
