This spacious, beautifully furnished property makes an idyllic rural base for a group or family of four. Close to a secluded group of converted barns in unspoiled countryside, the cottage is on the edge of wild Bodmin Moor, a designated Dark Sky area where starry night skies are free from light pollution. Climb the moor’s highest point, 420m Brown Willy (4.5 miles), for spectacular views and walks or explore the rugged landscape from horseback. Saddle up at a local riding school (1.5 miles), which runs pony-trekking trips and a Poldark trail that visits locations shown in the popular TV series. The barn is within a mile of a village store’s friendly pub and a popular café that’s set at the start of the Camel Trail. Walkers and cyclists can follow the route of the former railway line as it winds 18 miles through unspoiled countryside to the seaside fishing port of Padstow. Explore Port Isaac’s narrow streets and harbour (9 miles) or enjoy a seafood dish from the day’s catch at one of chef Nathan Outlaw’s two fish restaurants.
A bright ground-floor open-plan lounge/diner/kitchen with an outlook to the pretty garden features a splendid granite hearth housing a wood burner. Comfortable sofas, with Smart TV, a DVD player and Bluetooth speakers provide home entertainment and a country dining table with chairs completes the welcoming scene. A king-size bedroom with a TV has an en-suite shower room with WC, while the bathroom has a thermostatic shower over the bath and WC. The first floor comprises a king-size bed which can be unlinked to make for twin 2′6″ beds, together with a TV.
The large garden has views of the stream, with a patio to the front. It is not enclosed and a small country road runs alongside, so care must be taken with young children.
Troutstream is tucked away, by a 10 minute walk from the other cottages on offer. If you wish to book the other cottages, there is also The Linney, Butterwell, Otterbridge, Goosehill, Jingles and Snappers.
