More history-steeped streets with flights to Prague
Cultural riches to amble round and swoon over
There’s a good reason that the history-stuffed Czech capital doesn’t have hidden gems. Because Prague itself is the gem. History has been kind here, and its streets groan with quaint character, dotted with architectural marvels to make you smile. Being in Prague isn’t just about the brickwork, though. It’s about a cultural richness that can have you sighing to the strains of a Dvořák symphony, or swinging to jazz at a riverside bar. There’s plenty to enjoy and you’re sure to find some cheap flights to Prague as well. So why not book your flights to Prague today?
When should I book flights to Prague?
Prague is popular, but it’s also close. That means cheap tickets to Prague are usually wallet-friendly. The peak season does, however, stretch from the first bloom of spring to the last leaf of autumn. And it reaches another pinnacle when winter wonderland and Christmas coincide. Prague is probably busiest, though, in July and August. That means the cooler months of November, January and February are best for cheap flights to Prague. Late September is a good time to compare Prague flights, as the new school term starts and bargains get put online.
Where can I fly to Prague from?
If you’re wanting to book return flights to Prague that have the shortest flight times, then flying from Dublin is best. It should only take a couple of hours. Both Ryanair and Aer Lingus offer a non-stop service from the capital to Václav Havel Airport (PRG). There are options travelling from elsewhere in Ireland, though. KLM lays on a route from Cork that makes a short stop in Amsterdam, while Aer Lingus will hop you from Shannon to Heathrow, before passing the baton to British Airways to get you to Prague.
Getting from Václav Havel Airport to Prague
Most planes flying from Ireland to Prague arrive at Václav Havel’s Terminal 1. This airport is fairly close, being about 17 kilometres west of the city. The fastest way to Prague’s charms is on the Airport Express Bus. It takes you all the way into the city centre and costs 42 CZK. Public buses are a little cheaper and slower, with routes 100 and 118 connecting you to Prague’s Metro in 20 minutes. Allow another 25 minutes, though, to get to the city centre hotels using the Metro. All told, the cost should be 30 CZK.
Prague’s treasure trove of spires, beer and dumplings
Prague puts some of its shiniest attractions right up front, in the central square of Staromestske Namesti. Prepare to be wowed by a wonderful black-and-white contrast, pitting Tyn Church’s wild Gothic fantasy against St. Nicholas Church’s shimmering Baroque domes. The Old Town Hall joins the architectural face-off with its own jaw-dropping marvel – the 600-year-old timepiece of the Prague Astronomical Clock. But don’t just dine on Prague’s visual feasts. Plenty of sticky-fingered fun can be had savouring Czech dumplings in a Bohemian bar, all washed down with a swig of Prague’s legendary beer.
