Expensive hotel in an over-rated area

Pros: The room was good overall and the porch was a classy touch.
Cons: Breakfast should be included but the restaurant has been closed since early Jan 2017! The bathroom needs redecorating and there's no functioning AC.
Location: To get anywhere you're going to have to drive (steep hill, no pavement) & worry about parking. In summary, go somewhere other than Malibu beach.
We paid what I thought was a hefty amount for one night and I thought we'd be getting a better-quality experience. Sadly, we were left disappointed. It was a long drive and we arrived early but were still met with a friendly greeting, some towels and the suggestion that we take a dip in the pool while the room was prepared. So far, so classy. The pool is quite small, but that's to be expected on such a small site. I wasn't pleased to find that the restaurant has been closed since 2nd Jan 2017. To be fair, this info is on their website, but it isn't clear when you book. It also looks like they haven't even started work on it, seven months later (Aug 2017), so it comes across that they're just scamming unwitting guests like me. Not cool. The finish on the bathroom fittings is poor & the tap for the shower was just weird. I sought help from the front desk, but the guy was allegedly away helping someone for more than half an hour. I managed to work it out in the end, but it was annoying that there was no explanation for it given up front. Thankfully there was a ceiling fan in the room (slightly squeaky) because the AC didn't work properly. Again, like the shower unit, it looked like an ancient, cheap, compromised piece of equipment. It was also filthy with dust, so I was relieved we couldn't use it. You can't walk anywhere nearby and parking is a nightmare everywhere. The whole area is expensive and over-rated - I'd strongly recommend going somewhere else instead.
