Holidays in Orlando

This area of Central Florida is home to 240,000 people.

Tallahassee, the state capital, lies 220 miles northwest of Orlando, while Sorrento can be located 20 miles to the north.

The Universal Studios Florida™ and SeaWorld® Orlando are marvellous sights that are known around the world.

If your holiday is all about the whole family, outings to Walt Disney World® and Legoland Florida are sure to be popular. If you're looking for even more fun and excitement, Aquatica and Gatorland® are some other options.

Lean your head against the glass and observe a variety of underwater creatures go about their business at Discovery Cove.

Come and see the animals, big and small, that call the Central Florida Zoo and the Reptile World Sepentarium home. You can also immerse yourself in the world of wildlife at Jungle Adventures and Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge.

Fancy taking off to somewhere peaceful and drinking a glass of crisp white? Then don’t miss a day out at the Lakeridge Winery and the Trud Blue Winery.

Botanists and novices alike will be glad to learn about Orlando's rich plant collections. For a day among the flowers, start with a leisurely walk around the impressive beds at the Harry P. Leu Gardens. After that, head on over to the Mead Garden, where the range of species alone is definitely worth a look. If you'd like to see more, the floral displays at the Virginia S. Nelson Rose Garden and Kraft Azalea Gardens are also rather unique.

From a friendly game of football to simply lying back in the grass, there's a myriad of reasons to head to an urban oasis like Wekiwa Springs State Park or Kelly Park. Turkey Lake Park and Lake Bryan are a few more spots where you can experience a little greenery.

Osceola County Welcome Centre and History Museum should be one of the first places you visit. You'll find a range of information here, including ideas for excursions, the best restaurants to eat at and much more.

If you're a big believer in the soothing effects that being close to the water can bring, you've come to the right place. Lake Ivanhoe and Alligator Lake are just a few of the picturesque natural waterbodies here that you should stop by. To glimpse any additional wildlife, it's also worth a trip to Lake Davenport and Lake Cecile.

Orlando offers an assortment of nature reserves, such as Moss Park and Disney Wilderness Preserve. Tibet Butler Preserve and Lake Lotus Nature Park are two more that are worth visiting.

The Kennedy Space Centre and the Orlando Science Centre both have a number of eye-opening exhibits. Ask the welcoming staff about group tours or wander the peaceful halls on your own. Holy Land Experience and the Orlando Museum of Art are also decent alternatives.

Set sail on a journey through the seven seas at the Titanic the Experience, a valuable repository of the area's maritime past.

The awesome scientific gizmos and gadgets showcased at Pell's Citrus & Nursery could keep you engaged for days. To get stuck straight into the best stuff, you might want to ask around about any upcoming guided talks.

Whatever genre of art you like, you're sure to find it in Orlando. Why not begin your day of gallery going at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum and the Crealde School of Art? Also look into what exhibitions are on show at the Mennello Museum of American Art and the Morse Museum of American Art.

Love learning about history? Don't just read about the past, see it with your own eyes at the Orange County Regional History Centre. Want to dig even deeper? Then put the Maitland Historical Society and the Museum of the Apopkans on your agenda as well.

Gain a deeper understanding of the past when you explore the Full Sail University and Casa Feliz Historic Home Museum. Why not also spend a little time at the Wells' Built Museum and Clermont Historic Village Museum?

Take an excursion to Fort Christmas Historical Park, a stronghold that once played a key defence role, and imagine the attacks that its historic walls endured many years ago.

Want to add some spirituality to your escape? Pay a visit to St. James Cathedral and Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine. Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Lawrence AME Church are some other historically important sites.

You'll probably feel like you've crossed everything off your list after seeing Orlando's popular attractions, but don't head off just yet. There are still plenty of surprises left. Why not visit the Orlando Kart Centre and Orlando Watersports Complex? You'll also find plenty to keep you amused at Church Street Station and the Windermere Country Club.
