Great location for bars, restaurants and nightlife. Nice easy walk to gorgeous seafront too. However this is a hotel relying on its former glory - feels unloved and in need of tlc. A bar that closes at 10pm, no breakfast option - not even a coffee during the day. Staff pleasant enough - usually - but watched us load our bags onto trolley and drag via lift to room with no offer to help. No one obvious in charge. A shame - it could be so much better with very little extra effort.

Location is excellent, right at the edge of the Gaslamp district, ~3 blocks to the trolley, and a short walk to the waterfront. Staff is friendly and helpful: they changed my room reservation to a bigger one that would let my family join for a few days. Definitely clean in an historic hotel kind of way: they pick interesting furniture that’s not easy to clean but somehow keep it clean. One of the elevators has dioramas on the 3rd and 4th floors. Loved that! The inner courtyard was a good place to read.
