This was a bit of a nontraditional stay for us. We got to the hotel around 5pm and the room wasn't ready. The $40 resort fee was waived and $125 provided toward dinner at thier restaurant for the wait. This was Ok. While waiting for a table to eat, still waiting anyways for a half hour, the hotel offered 2 king bed rooms in place of the double bed room with a cot for the 5 of us. We thought that was fine and since we need a room with three, a cot may still be needed. However the rooms we got were tiny rooms with no walking space so no room for a cot. We did manage with 3 in one bed for one room but very hard to move around without getting in each other's way. The bathrooms were only 5' x 5' for a shower, toilet and sink. The shower os only 30" x 20" space and hard to move to wash. I don't recomend these rooms for more than 1 person or maybe a close couple on a budget and not spending much time in the room. I should have stuck with the original room so we had the room for us to move around.

I have stayed at this hotel for years. The change in ownership to Hilton has resulted in some changes. The staff remain friendly, patient and helpful. This includes the door/bellmen who are always kind and engaging. However this is the second visit where the checkin lines have been extremely long - seemingly understaffing the front desk at key times. The towels in the rooms have quite possibly shrunk and don’t seem to match the quality of the hotel. As a long (enough) time guest, I was disappointed they did away with massive gingerbread house that was a holiday centerpiece and tradition in the front lobby. My loyalty to the hotel and location remains. But I would be remiss if I didn’t note a couple of the changes I’ve seen since the days they were independently owned. Proximity to the Back Bay neighborhood, the Common, South End restaurants and other neighborhoods is ver convenient. And I will continue to stay here.
