Location and Value all in one
I love London but man is it expensive so you need to find ways to maximize value for your money. First off go grab a GoCity pass if you are doing 5 or more days. It will be worth it. Second find a hotel that is close to transport, yet far away from the chaos that is London. ABC Hyde Park was great for me. First let’s start off with location. Literally two traffic lights away was Paddington Station which gives you access to Underground, Elizabeth line and National Rail. There is a 15 min train to/from Heathrow (buy your ticket way in advance to save yourself money). The hotel is also close to Edgeware Road and Lancaster Gate which gives you access to even more lines. Edgeware road is where I stocked up on groceries (water, snacks, beer, etc) at Waitross. The room comes with a fridge and microwave which was unexpected and meant I had a cold beer waiting for me for the fraction of the cost of a pub.
The hotel is located on a Mews. You will learn that Mews are basically side streets the rich used to house their horses and staff. You don’t get the traffic from the main roads and it was quiet even though the hospital is right around the corner. If you have ever been to NYC you know the sounds of horns and sirens. You will hear the odd siren now and then but I had my window each night and slept well. Let’s talk about temperature. Hotels in London don’t really have AC. They all use fans. There is a giant fan on the wall pointed at the bed to cool you
