The hotel itself is fine and benefits from a good location, which made it convenient for our stay. Unfortunately, the check-in experience significantly detracted from what could have been a positive visit. We had prepaid for the stay via Expedia; however, at check-in the hotel insisted that no payment had been received and proceeded to charge our card again. The following day, after contacting Expedia and providing clear proof of payment, the hotel reluctantly refunded the duplicate charge. We subsequently emailed hotel management to express our disappointment and to seek clarification, but we received no response. The lack of communication and accountability was disappointing and left a poor final impression. It is a real shame, as the hotel itself is perfectly adequate, but the handling of the check-in process and the absence of follow-up from management fell well below expectations.

Location is great. In Zone 1 and the Marble Arch underground is only a minute walk from the hotel. Easy to get around via the Central line. Room is generally clean but a bit dated. Carpet is worn, stained and have a slight musky smell. Bathroom is also dated.

Unfortunately we had issues checking in, which made us late for our dinner reservation. I don’t feel it was handled particularly well, as it took 3 people to eventually find us a room. We booked my daughter in earlier, with no problems, in fact they let her have her room early, which was great, & we were told we would be on the same floor 7 when we check in later (no deluxe king rooms available at that time) iit was 6.45 by the time we returned, to be told we could have a room on the 1st floor or wait 40 minutes for another room, as they were still cleaning, we thought this was poor. Having booked back in January, to be told that was irrelevant, we didn’t feel that was the level of service we expected from The Cumberland (previously The Hard Rock Hotel) The gentleman who finally found us a room, after 40 minutes at the desk, did actually add on breakfast, as a gesture of good will Friends we were with, also had issues checking in too On the positive side, we did have lovely cocktails at the bar, & the room was nice & clean
