I figured since I had prepaid for the night, once we got to the room we could get through one night. The elevator smelled the same as the lobby and when we reached our room, saw the door was propped open. I pushed the door open unsure of what I would find. The smell of smoke was so strong in the room I couldn’t breathe and I knew we couldn’t stay. Went back to the desk and explained the situation, gave my key back, lost the price of the room, drove to another city, paid for another room. I have traveled as part of my job for most of my life. I can take a room that’s sub par but for the first time in my life, felt afraid and unsafe. A lesson I will never have to learn again. From now on, I stick with hotel chains I know. "
