Baking at the Bostonian

Upon arriving, there was a fire truck at the hotel..a little unnerving. Apparently a water issue occurred just before we arrived, but no prob. We checked in and the family infront of us was complaining about no AC….We got into our room, the temp was 89, the AC wasnt working, front desk couldn’t do anything for us. No one slept as the temp proceeded to rise to 91 over night. Will never stay here again

The location is excellent. You can walk all of North End from the hotel and there is a T station close-by. Before booking, check to see if their AC has been fixed. Our room never got below 78 degrees, despite the air running 24/7. After being out in the heat, all day, it didn’t give you anywhere to cool down and relax!

Asked for an early check in. Was unable to tell if this went through or not. Arrived and was told it was denied- that’s fine- was a last minute thing anyway. However, returned at 3 for normal check in time and was told the room still wasn’t ready. So, after some confusion, They gave us a different room- the AC was not working at all so they had a standalone unit working really hard to keep the room below 80 degrees. Their backup AC couldn’t keep up with above average temps in Boston. I get it- older hotels weren’t designed for today’s temps. That said, after complaining about it (had to go down to the lobby because their in-room phones absolutely do NOT work.) they moved us to another room that also couldn’t keep up. 82 degrees. We were told by other staff that there were other rooms that were also not keeping up with the temps. I felt like maybe they could’ve found us a room that wasn’t really hot, but we were only staying one night, (which they asked several times) so we weren’t really that important- kinda got the feeling from staff that if we were in a penthouse, or staying a week, it would’ve been resolved. The bathroom was big and the hotel was well located. Generally the staff was nice. Far from the worst place I’ve stayed, but for what it cost per night I definitely expected more. Actually would have just settled for honesty- if crazy hot weather means your hotel can’t keep the rooms cool, maybe just admit it?

Checked in way earlier than expected the lady at the desk was very sweet! And helpful and got us a room as soon as possible as it was still morning time and very hot outside! Much appreciated! Everything was clean in the room and the AC was ice cold!:)

It was really poor! We made reservations for dinner and when we got to the restaurant the door was locked. The desk said it was closed due to HVAC issues. No sign outside indicating a problem. Called reception on the morning to see if the restaurant was open for breakfast. No! Asked if any coffee was laid out. No, because restaurant provides. Disappointed because one reason we chose the hotel was because it had a restaurant. Had to use my cell phone to reach desk as phone wasn’t working. Shower full of mildew/mold. Gross! Lastly, we had to pay an extra $35 which was a fee for water, and use of other facilities which we didn’t use. And, the taxi the bellman ordered didn’t arrive in time so I had to order my own which arrived immediately. So disappointed and it wasn’t cheap!

Right in the thick of it

Close to everything. Just some odd things. Only one elevator worked while we were there. The inside rooms had portable air-conditioning units. Didnt quite keep the room cool enough but we were there sduring a heat wave. So many options for food at the market right across the street. Basically right in the freedom trail. Quick walk to north end for Italian food and Mike's pastry. Overall good. Cute little patio. Would stay again for convenience to everything.

Had a little incident with dirty bedding first day and the woman at the desk was very dismissive and rude to my husband when he went down to the desk to address it. Said that it was paint not blood. I carried the sheets down to the desk and showed her. Either way there should not be blood or paint on sheets although it was clearly blood...yuk

We had to upgrade our room in order to check in when we arrived. The air had issues, the remote wouldn’t work. There was a rolling bed in the middle of the room. Had to ask for extra pillows several times. The elevator stopped working, phone wouldn’t work in the room. Bathroom sink had a huge crack in it. Overall wasn’t worth the amount of money we had to pay.

This property is very run down and the staff seem very overwhelmed and in need of some customer service training. You’re nickel and dimes for every addition and even though you say you have 4 people in the room we still had to call down for adequate pillows and towels. The elevators were down on the day of check out and our phone, balcony door lock, and bedside lamps were broken. Do not expect luxury or customer service here but the location was convenient.
