Hotel was beautiful and clean but what stood out to me was the staff - very attentive, friendly and super helpful. Johanna right at check-in at the registration desk, gave us lots of useful information, recommendations based on our plans, and even helped making some reservations for us. The location is great that one can walk to the old town and attractions, tons of restaurant choices nearby and close to water. I would love to stay there again if we visit Lisbon again. Best, Anis

We arrived Friday morning & reserved a room for Thursday night due to early morning arrival on Friday . Upon arrival, Catarina, who worked at the front desk, asked for our info which we gave. Due to getting off a long flight & time of morning, I said we’re checking in today. She claim she couldn’t find our reservation so I showed her the res. from my phone. It went all downhill from there! She blew up stating I gave her the wrong info & how she can’t properly do her job if given the wrong date. She had a nasty attitude to which I let her know! She asked for our passports & credit card which we gave. She then slapped the passports on the desk instead of handing them back to me. She then tried swiping our Amex and told us it was declined - we were like seriously, it’s a platinum card! We then gave her another card to which she also said declined! By this time, we were highly upset bc this woman was either racist or having a bad day! She then tried explaining that a pin # was needed to use any card in Lisbon. Then she asked for $100 dep. in order for us to use one of our credit cards which she said was declined! We ended up using a debit card w/a PIN just to get in the room. We also called Amex who never heard of such nonsense. My spouse went down & spoke w/Soraya (sp?) mgr, who stated everything done earlier wasn’t hotel policy! She apologized which made us feel better. Stay away from Catarina as she’s rude & may have a disdain for Americans! Thx to Sara for anniv wine!

We had a very enjoyable stay for our first time in Lisbon. The Aurea hotel is located close to the cruise port so it’s in a very safe location. Although this means it is also very “touristy”! This is fine however as there’s plenty of great restaurants in walking distance as well as the historic Alfama district literally right behind the hotel! Just be ready to climb a lot of steep hills & staircases. The hotel itself is very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful! The room we had was a basic king - which in Europe means two full beds pushed together. The room was decent sized nothing special however. The bathroom was very nice with two basins and even a bidet. My only complaint was our toilet seat was broken a bit and kept sliding which they did their best to try to fix. I Suspect it needs to be fully replaced however. The breakfast was very good. We only did it on one day but it blew away what you get in the US at most upper scale restaurants, no real surprise as Lisbon has a phenomenal food culture! Unfortunately the dinner we did not do as the sene took us quite small surprisingly and the one night we did want to try it they were out of the steak, so we went elsewhere. For shopping, It’s only a few blocks from the Main Shopping districts as well of Chiado/ Baixa. Just avoid the obvious tourist traps right next door. You Definitely need to walk a bit further to get to the good stuff. Overall an excellent stay.

I have traveled around the world for work and stayed at many 5 star hotels. I would rate the AUREA Museum hotel right up there with them but at half the price! Beautifully appointed, clean, modern! If you are in Lisbon stay there!

My husband and I stayed in a double room with terrace for two nights. Our room was clean and well appointed. We liked the world map during the Age of Discovery on the wall. The view of the Tejo River from the terrace was gorgeous. We happened to see one of the cruise ships leaving the port of Lisbon. Also, we enjoyed the hotel’s free archaeological remains tour after breakfast. What a historic hotel! The hotel is within walking distance to many attractions, restaurants and train/subway stations.
