Value for money on Miami Beach
I booked this hotel as I was having to spend four days in Miami on a layover between courier jobs.
I booked this instead of an airport hotel as I thought it might be a good chance to see what Miami Beach was like.
First impressions upon arrival were mixed. It hadn't cost me a lot of money and as I went to the room I was thinking that maybe I had made a mistake. However, the more time I spent there the more I appreciated the place.
It is a little threadbare in places but perhaps this is an attempt to retain fifties and Art Deco type features. The room was clean, the beds were reasonably comfortable and the bathroom worked as it should. The promised refrigerator was the and working. The air-con was efficient if a little loud. I had no problem sleeping though.
By the time I had been there a couple of days I was beginning to like the place.
There is a large'ish Walgreens a two minute walk away for supplies and toiletries etc. It is just around the corner from the Lost Weekend bar and about three blocks from the Playwright Irish pub. There are lots of restaurants and diner style premises on your doorstep.
The beach is about two blocks away and the hotel have a supply of beach towels and umbrellas for customers to use.
The staff were friendly and helpful. I needed an adaptor to charge my phone and iPad and the guy in reception lent me his own charger for the evening.
The only negatives were, the view from the room was the side of the hotel next door and a service alley. This was no problem as the room had an effective blind and I used it all the time as I like to sleep late. The service alley is hotel staff only so it's not as if there are vagrants outside your window. The taps in the bathroom turn in strange directions but I did adapt rapidly. The door to the room was a rather loose fit in it's frame so security isn't great. There is a deadbolt on the door but that was a little fiddly to use. That said, I saw no evidence of unsavoury characters loitering anywhere near during my stay but perhaps the door locks are something they could re-visit.
Breakfast is coffee and a bun. I didn't bother as there's a lovely diner just around the corner that does a great breakfast for under ten bucks.
By the time I left I had decided that if I were to come back to Miami Beach I would stay at this hotel again. For the cost and location I think it's good value and the staff were great.
