The towels and bedding were clean but the bathroom was extremely neglected and the ceiling was so low in the shower that you could not stand underneath. My husband banged his head on the roof twice! The bathroom grouting around the tiles was mainly black with mould. Very disappointing.

Great location, parking although very limited in Bristol was available for £7 a night at the rear of the hotel. Lovely stone building with tall ceilings and box sash windows. Very friendly staff. Great breakfast even though temporarily no hot cooked food as the kitchen is being renovated. Toasted sausage, bacon or vegetarian sausage available. Could do with a decorate but very charming.

Hotel located in a pleasant part of Bristol

Pros: The location, price, staff friendliness (and the fruit bowl in the room). The buffet breakfast with toast, was ample.
Cons: The bath and shower. The bath sealant was mouldy, the shower head was partly blocked and looked grim. We weren't comfortable using it.
Location: 10 minute walk to the Clifton suspension bridge and Leigh Woods. Avon Gorge/White Lion hotel has a large outdoor terrace with great views and menu.
We stayed here one night as we were visiting a venue just 10 minutes walk away. We picked this hotel for the location, and because it had a car park, albeit with limited spaces on a first come first served basis. And the price was right. Since we were checking in at the earliest time, we had hoped to get a parking space. Unfortunately not. Guests who had checked out that morning had paid for a day's parking, which was better value than the public car parks. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful, she knew all the parking costs and times on the street, and luckily we found a roadside park just 100 yards up the road. The hotel was old and well used, and areas were in need of redecorating, especially the bathroom, which no amount of cleaning could remove the black mould! The shower head needed replacing. Although the room had been hovered, the edges hadn't been done for some time. One of us had a good night's sleep, but the bed was on the soft side. It was a very hot day and night, but the window was open and the room was a good temperature, and it wasn't too noisy in the street. We both had the buffet breakfast, which was fine.

Conveniently placed guest house.

We needed somewhere in Clifton so that we could help our daughter move flat. We've stayed before so knew what to expect. However the roller shutter on the car park was new + difficult to access as you needed the code before you could enter but there was nowhere to park to be able to go into the Washington to get the code. Had to park illegally+ hope for the best. Other than that everything was fine. Nice breakfast.
