The staff are friendly and the room was (mainly) clean. Apart from that, a pretty depressing experience. Furniture dated, wall-mounted hairdryer of a type I haven't seen since school swimming lessons, bath with a patched hole in it and stained tiles, and everything painted and curtained and carpeted grey. Signs everywhere warning CAUTION! Beware hot water! CAUTION! Beware slippy bath! CAUTION - please be careful that the steam from the shower could set off the fire alarm, so remember to keep the bathroom door shut when showering. Within ten minutes of checking in and doing nothing at all, the fire alarm went off. Which then made me too nervous to boil the kettle in my room (because, steam?) and use the (one) PAPER cup I'd been given to make hot drinks in for a two night stay. To add to the fun, a loose metal manhole cover on one of the surrounding roads meant a constantly repeating load 'ker-thunk!' noise every time a vehicle drove over it. Which was pretty much all night, as the surrounding road is busy and home to two drive through takeaways, a retail park and a casino. So not much sleep to speak of either. I didn't complain to the staff at the time because - really - they seemed lovely, and what could they do about any of it? 'The place where you work is barely functional, tired and sad?' And to be fair, parking was free and the wifi was good, and it never claimed to be anything other than a budget booking. Just really needs some love.

Poor sound insulation meant that we could easily hear other guests in the corridor and neighbouring rooms. Poor window glazing.
