Booking-in was easy and Meg at reception was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Location ideal for town centre shopping etc. We were in Room 8 overlooking the main thoroughfare and very close to the English Bridge - the room was extremely noisy despite the use of ear plugs provided in the room. Had to keep the windows shut to reduce the noise but this had the negative effect of making the room uncomfortably warm. In hindsight, we should have asked to be moved to a quieter location. The bathroom was very well appointed but it was very dark for make-up and shaving - it was much lighter in the shower cubicle!!! Bath towels were big, fluffy and lovely. The pillows were very uncomfortable and needed replacing. The length of the curtains were too long and spread onto the floor area creating a trip hazard. Didn't have an evening meal so cannot comment on this. However, we had an early breakfast in our room because we had an early start - the breakfast was of very good standard brought to us by two ladies who were very pleasant and obliging. We would definitely stay here again, but would make sure we were roomed to the rear of the hotel.

I would definitely recommend the lion pheasant as it was as ideal location the room was small as we picked a snug room but it was spotless and had everything we needed. The breakfast was the best we’ve ever had.

birthday weekend

Lovely hotel. The bar area is really nice and the breakfast is top. Just a short walk to shops and local attractions. This was our second visit and we’d definitely recommend and go again ourselves.

Nice place in Shrewsbury, noisy neighbours

Pros: Good food, nice ensuite with good size shower
Cons: Can you do anything about the noise from rooms above? Was this staff quarters?
Location: Shrewsbury is a lovely town and well worth a visit. Lots of places to eat & shop. Good walks along the river.
Hotel and food good. Staff friendly. Woken up at midnight by noisy people in room above who banged on for ages. As this is an old building there isn't much to stop the noise. The car park is small and difficult to manoeuvre. Having driven in to find no places we had to reverse out of difficult narrow entrance onto the road. There is an NCP across the road, this is a bit expensive though. £10 for overnight stay. Room was comfortable if a bit small. The ensuite was good with a nice big shower. I would recommend but would caution about the car parking - if possible stop outside and walk in to check for places.

Helpful staff

Excellent service by all staff. Due to temporary road work outside our room we were upgraded to a room with a four poster bed. Breakfast was delicious and quickly served. Car park entrance is quite tight if you have a large car.

Lovely stay

Pros: The decor, location and restaurant.
Cons: More friendly bar staff and better continental breakfast.
Location: Great location to walk/run along river to park, close to abbey and walking distance to town for shopping and restaurants. Peach Tree restaurant worth
Nice clean room, comfy bed and fab shower. Bit hot in the room first night and hard to open window. Breakfast mediocre for continental - both mornings I didn't feel it lived up to the description but cooked breakfast very good. Barmaid a little serious and not super friendly/welcoming but competent. Restaurant was AMAZING. I think it was the best meal I've ever had!

One night away break

We spent a night a the lion and pheasant in the loft room. We enjoyed it very much. Great room loads of character. Excellent food and good real ale. Just what we needed recharge our batteries

Little jewel in Shrewsbury

Fantastic building.. whoever the architect/interior designer was had incredible vision and taste! Delightful environment to 'navigate'! Staff were great! Food likewise!
