Hotel claiming to be a 4 star

Pros: The dinners in the restaurant were quite good
Cons: A lot - see above - needs complete refurbishment
Location: Is a very poor area - sought out restaurants via internet; either closed or very seedy/fast food.
This is a very tired hotel; unbelievable it has a 4 star rating. No room sound-proofing, either from above or next door; the person above me walking around sounded like an elephant, although he was just walking normally. My room was apparently an executive suite; I stay in many hotels, and this was not even a decent double room, of no more than 2 star standard. There was a dividing door with next door's room, which clearly had a children's bedroom behind it; could hear all talk and excitable children. Pillows were foam. Reception often unoccupied. The buffet breakfast lacked any decent fruit, just a very unfresh fruit salad, tinned peaches and such like. My poached egg was runny and undercooked. I don't review hotels I stay at very often, but felt it was necessary in this case.

Really disappointed

Pros: Staff friendly. Room was clean.
Cons: Food. Attention to detail, especially given the star rating and price.
Arrival: Difficult to find parking due to repaving of car park. Not clear where to park. Room: Room was comfortable and clean. Bed was comfortable. Walls are paper thin though, or maybe it was the door connecting to the room next-door. Heard every word of their conversations. Service: Everyone was friendly and helpful, however... I was hoping to order room service and get some work done. Unfortunately no room service menu. Called and helpfully one was brought up. Called to order, was told they were busy and to expect a call back. This didn't happen so called back in 15 mins. Ordered some dinner and a coffee. Food arrived in good time, however coffee missing. Was told the manager noted there was instant coffee in the room and I could save some money on the bill. Not sure how to take this but generally I prefer not to be second guessed on my orders. They did bring it eventually. I also placed an order for breakfast. I ordered a croissant, a selection of cheese and ham and some coffee. This was the worst breakfast I have ever been served, in any establishment ever. Again, the order wasn't complete, missing a croissant. I was instead brought a couple of stale mini-muffins as a replacement as the croissants weren't available. The cold meat selection consisted of an unnaturally red salami cut, and two small pieces of soggy cooked ham. The cheese consisted of two babybels and two wrapped pieces of cheddar. The coffee was terrible and undrinkable, similar colour to tepid tea.

Seeed popular for weddings, plenty of space in the room. We were at the back of the hotel so nice and quite.
