Good hotel
Once you work out your bearings very central up the leg to old town out the front round the corner and through the train station for new town so easy.
Hotel was lovely and comfortable rooms a great size

There was a really helpful member of staff (male, Scottish, Newcastle fan - I’m a Sunderland fan so that should show how good he was! ) who gave us advice about where to go and helped with our bags and check in

Was asked prior to arrival if we wanted to upgrade our room choice. We said yes to a cost of £30 per night extra for an Executive Room which had a Queen Bed if available. Arrived and asked when booking in if we had been upgraded. Staff confirmed we had. Got to the room but we had a small double and a single bed in our room. Went back down to question the upgrade to be told because of the renovations the hotel was having we were given the room we were in instead of an Executive room we'd hoped. Staff were generally good overall. Hotel clean despite the renovations. Be good in future to let guests know work is going on. Might help with continuing a booking or not.

Room was on the third floor. Main problem was noise from the street as windows very thin. Mattress not the most comfortable.
Location is great, room is very clean. Staffs are very helpful. Don't forget to book breakfast in hotel restaurant which is great selection and super value. Will definitely go back again.
The location was exceptional for everything we had planned and despite being located next Waverley railway station we never heard a train.
Our room on the 5th floor (recommended by the receptionist) was well worth its executive status with a great view of the city

Room had developed a sewage smell when we retruned from a night - was offered similar room. Was Ok moving - but was frustrating when 30mins later (when we were asleep) the night manager came back to check if there was anything in the fridge (there wasn't).
