Stayed one night. Very comfortable standard room. Did not pay for a view of the castle but didn't bargain on the loud aircon fan outside the window, serving the hotel. Otherwise excellent. Didn't eat there, only a wine in the bar. Perfect location for exploring and would stay again.

Traditional hotel in the best location

Pros: The view from the room more than anything
Cons: Perhaps a few things could do with updating
Location: Right smack bang in the middle of Princes St. Location couldn't be more perfect. Everything is handy but if not, the buses and tram are on Princes St
We managed to get room 637 on the 6th floor overlooking the castle and Princes St and Scott Monument and we had a shared balcony which was just the best thing about the room!! Room average size but everything you need.. bathroom great and shower perfect with good toiletries. Tea and coffee and kettle. But the view... you need to stay on 6th or 7th floor to get the balcony... only place I'd want to stay now!!
