I liked the staff; everyone I interacted with was very kind and helpful. The hotel as a whole looks old, and the carpet on the corridors' floors is very worn and outdated. The white and naked walls without decorative art or paintings on every floor make the corridor look like a cold and low character, even though the staircase looks phenomenal. The room is nice, has a good size, the bed is fine, but there is zero sound isolation, and I could hear every single noise coming from the corridor. The bathroom is renovated, with great lighting, comfortable towels, but the shower cubicle is tiny, especially taking into consideration the average British man/woman body size. The bath robes were a great touch, but they are very small for a man...my husband could not wear his comfortably. In the morning, when I was showering, the fire alarm went off 3 times, and I panicked! My husband called reception to ask what was going on, and he was told that it was a mistake...but it happened 3 times during my shower...imagine how scary that was?

Easy to check in, all the staff were really nice and friendly. The hotel building was very impressive and the interior was very traditional. The bedrooms were comfortable. Breakfast was very nice, with a great selection of hot and cold food. Large carpark. Would definitely recommend.

We were very disapointed with the standard of the room. The room we were given was not refurbished to the modern standard of the rooms on their website. There were defects in the room, cracks, very creaky floorboards and areas that needed sorting in the bathroom.

The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. The only problem was it was very noisy due to ongoing works that started very, very early. They also had very few toilets available on the ground floor and this became an issue. Liked that the air con worked though!

Grand in places, disappointing in others.

It's a pretty glorious hotel, and I can imagine that in its heyday it would have been exceptional, though also much more expensive in all fairness. Unfortunately, I was given a pretty poor room that was nestled in a corner behind a fire escape, resulting in poor lighting and a dark room. The window was also drafty and was inadequate defence against the noise of the road. The bed didn't really fit in the room, and the mattress was similarly oddly too small for the bed so I knocked my leg against it a few times as I squeezed my way to the window or the wardrobe. The television was also unusually restrictive in options by hotel standards. I don't expect much, but the channel selection was well below average, let alone other features like smart TVs. I did think the quality of the fittings, bedframe and TV aside, was excellent and the bathroom was really quite good. I also really appreciated having a small fridge to use, this is a big plus for me.The problem is, this is a single room which they've squeezed a bed that is too big into. I really wanted to leave a good review for such a unique hotel, but given the poor room I was given, I'm unable to do so.
