It is in a lovely spot by the beach and within easy reach of absolutely beautiful lakes eg. Wastwater, Buttermere and near to Langdale and Scafell . Also great walk from beach up to viewing platform on cliffs above although it is rather steep but worth it if you can manage it . The staff are lovely and treat you as if you are already known to them and are really very helpful. Covid organisation is second to none and they take it very seriously and this makes you feel safe . I noticed a big difference on visiting a local pub which I wont name but another local pub the Queens was also very covid friendly so well done to them. The hotel is about 15 to 20 mins walk from the village with a choice of about four pubs to eat in. All in all , a lovely relaxing break in a relatively unknown spot and good value compared to somewhere like Windermere. The area is lot more unspoilt and natural but this is because it is more remote , just what we wanted.

Nice hotel and close to the beach

Very close to beach

Pros: The beds were comfortable.
Cons: Some modernisation and a lick of paint.
Location: Very remote. Walking to St Bees Head.
Hotel in a good location for beach and for walking to St Bees Head. However, very little else to do in the area and, apart from the hotel, only 2 pubs to get anything to eat in St Bees. The breakfast was satisfactory but nothing special. The room was clean enough and adequate but felt it was slightly over-priced at £60/night given the amenities. After the first night, nobody came to service the room and the only concession they made was to give us a few extra biscuits and tea bags. The décor in the room was plain and simple but in the public areas was rather old-fashioned. The outside of the hotel appeared rather grubby.
