I would give this hotel a rating between 3 and 4. The hotel building is lovely, it is a former country retreat of a baroness. The grounds are also beautiful, I felt that the surrounding gardens could be maintained a little better. If you like military history, definitely stay here as it was the home of the 617 Dambusters squadron during WWII. As for COVID implementations, they have a one-way system in place and you are required to wear masks in the building. I booked a standard room which was nice and clean. We didn't have much of a view, our windows looked out to the bins which was a little disappointing. I like to sleep with the window open and it was quite noisy late at night outside our room which woke me up. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, prices were very reasonable for a hotel. The food was nice and the service was good. We also had breakfast in the hotel, it costs £15 pp and you get tea/coffee/juice and then something from the cold and hot options. If you just want a coffee and a yoghurt, the breakfast isn't worth it. However, if you get a full English, coffee, juice and a pastry, then its worth it. On check out, the reception did try and charge me an extra £30, which was incorrect. Make sure you always check your bill and work out your charges as hotels do make mistakes. Overall, I think that I would stay here again, I am perhaps nitpicking a little in my review.

Thank you for reviewing your stay. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay. I will feedback you comments about the about breakfast and dinner. I am sorry you were distributed during the evening, I will advise the Duty Manager about the noise you experienced. If you do return to the hotel, why not stay in one of our Executive rooms that have a garden view, these overlook the restored Harold Peto gardens. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Good location

Pros: Location. Helpfull staff
Location: Shower couldn't cope with demand for hot water. Room its self was fine, but shower was frustrating
Pleasant enough place, but felt a bit like faded grandeur

Lovely historic hotel

Stayed three nights here, the room we were given was a bit small, but had everything we needed. We didn't find the bed comfortable and the floorboards creaked, but it is an old hotel, so this may be expected. The water pressure in the shower was very poor. Breakfast was served in the dining room with a selection of fruit, yoghurt, cereals etc as well as a cooked breakfast and pastries. Food was generally good, but we didn't like that you had to cross a hallway into the room opposite to get to the hot buffet and the food was cold on our first morning. However, if the hotel is not busy, hot food is cooked to order and served to your table, which was much better. The grounds of the hotel are very nice and there is ample parking. Wood hall Spa is a lovely place to visit with nice shops and restaurants. Would stay here again, but felt it was a bit expensive for a 3 star hotel. If in the area a visit to the Tea House in the Woods is a must for delicious food and friendly and very efficient service.

Excellent Hotel stay

Pros: Staff very courteous and friendly, dressed very smartly and very helpful.
Cons: Just water pressure in the bathroom... too slow and took a while for it to warm up to hot.
Location: Loads of historical visits to do and I you are interested in the Dmabusters then more than enough of an education
Soaked in Nostalgic history of the 2nd world war it was everything I expected and more. I served in the RAF I knew it was there have never stayed, will return to the Petwood.
