Very poor breakfast

Very clean. Great furniture, decoration and facilities. Some room for improvement regarding staff kindness and definitely the worst breakfast I've ever had in a 4 star hotel.... no fried eggs, no scones, no hash browns.... low variety and quality in general.... just horrible.

Exceeded expectations

I stay in many hotels in the UK and Europe and frankly, many of them are not up to the standard you’d expect, so reading some of the not so positive reviews for this one I was already expecting very little but due to the proximity to my teams work location for the week I decided to risk it. While the external appearance suggested I was right to be apprehensive, resembling something between a dark and foreboding prison and an unloved office block, from the minute I entered the reception with it’s lovely smell, the happy to help smiling reception staff and the functional but very clean room in the first floor my concerns vanished and after a week in their care I can say I’d happily recommend Alterns and will stay again if I return to the area. I didn’t use the Health club but colleagues did and reported positively on it’s facilities and appearance, we only ate in the restaurant once and the food was exactly what you’d expect from such a hotel. Improvements? Better exit signage and surfacing for the ample sized car park, more accessible power socket by the bed (hidden behind table), some noise from happy residents on a couple of evenings (room was close to stairs) but really, nothing significant. Thank you Alterns, I’ll be back 😁

Tired and “should have booked directly “ they sai.

The bed was small but comfortable and the space was clean. Our stay started with a poor checkin that seemed to be due to booking through hotels. Com. They would only process the booking one room at a time, which resulted in confusing the rooms and breakfast vouchers. Hotel.com customers alarmed pay for parking. The room had limited amenities, a cracked sink, cracked floor tiles and basic air con. We were told to ring a number to book a slot in the pool. I rang through for half an hour starting at 7 am , no answer, finally reception rang back saying we could go down. The restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. Wouldn’t book there again, even if booking directly would give us better service. The internet was ok and the bus was nearby. Reception inly had one person on so it was difficult to get help in a timely manner from them.

Solid Stay

Good hotel for a short business trip. The room was comfortable and the restaurant food was very good, though some of the seating — especially the lower tables and booths — felt a bit cramped. The hotel was busy and staff were efficient, though not quite as warm as other places I’ve stayed. Nice bonus having a pool. Overall, a solid stay.

Ideal base for visiting Aberdeen

Check in was effortless with a nice chat with the receptionist. I had upgraded my room for this visit and it was really comfortable with a large bed and a coffee machine, but other than this the standard room I usually have is very good. As ever I used the gym and the pool which are both really good for a hotel. Only problem was, as it's the school holidays the kids were enjoying themselves in the usually tranquil pool,lol. There is an adult only period in the pool from 7pm. Food and service in the restaurant was as good as ever. The hotel also has good size carpark which is charged for but not a big cost. This really is an ideal base for visiting Aberdeen.
