The hotel must have been fantastic in its day, what let it down for me was the room next to ours had a dog in it, that barked throughout the night.
Also there was a stench of sawage on the upper floors, this was reported to reception.
The only good bit was the view from the room. Receptions very rude & untrained. Took ages to check in early so wasnt worth paying for. Parking is charged but made a mistake on scratch card for parking so had to pay again. Asked for extra pillow on first day due to back problem but didnt get asked again next day for a very rude receptionist saying 1 only even though was promised the day before. Didn't sleep as couldn't get comfortable. Had a jacuzzi bath didnt work. No shower gel in dispenser. Coffee maker didnt work. Teabags are crap & no coffee in room. Dirty room. Breakfast not worth the money. Should not be called the grand. Should be called the not grand hotel Even locals laughed when i said where we stayed. Staff need a kick up the arse or sacking in reception. 1 bar staff to serve loads of people. Would never stay here again. Should be shutdown.

Staff friendly happy to help, property showing signs of age, maintenance do seem to be on top of most of it !
The room was dated but generally clean and the beds were comfy. Nice sea view and good location. The smell from the bathroom however was awful, a really bad drain smell. I complained at reception and was told it was because the hotel was built in the 1800's but our friend's room didn't have the same smell so that is a poor excuse.
Stay was good, greated by the same friendly staff as I always have when stay there & they remembered me even though it's been a while, & the hotel is always clean & tidy I enjoy staying there, even though it was busy... However this time my gripe was I checked in at 2030 after a 6 hour train journey & couldn't get any food... Drinks machine was broken so only drink was in glasses from bar which was difficult to get to the room with luggage, & room was in 2nd floor basement which meant no cell service all night & had to rely on their Internet which wasn't the best... Wasn't happy about the couple next door coming in at 1am drunk & banging around but that's not the hotels fault. Room was still comfy & warm though & I really enjoyed the hot tub jacuzzi in the bathroom.

Staff were very helpful and friendly...Breakfast nice...Dog friendly so will go again...(Scottish manageress ..Great Customer Service ) and a big shout out for the bingo callers!!!!
All around magnificent piece of architecture. Brilliant staff, very helpful and pleasant. For the price I paid, the room itself was great.
The place could do with a bit of redecoration but I really liked the atmosphere of the hotel overall.
Room needs updating. Was clean. But bottom of shower mouldy, marks on walls. Window rotting. No sockets near bed. Mattress only 3in wide and rock hard. Very poor sleep. But was cheap.
We have stayed here twice now we love it it’s old and charming the receptionists as always happy to help upgrading us to a sea view and bigger rooms
Parking is a big pain as never any spaces outside had to park in another hotel parking paid £10 for the night
