arrived at hotel and staff were very eager to help and also upgraded the next day and I was so shocked by how good the rooms are and I would highly reccomend staying there if you are looking for somewhere in the Sunderland/South Shields area even for a night away

First visit to this hotel and wont be my last. Friendly and welcoming on reception and lovely clean hotel. Room perfect for 1 night and the bar is lovely.

Very nearly great

The good: This is a lovely looking hotel from when you walk through the doors. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bar attached was really good and the breakfast was enjoyable. Good looking furnishings in the room overall great look and feel. The bad: The bed was a bit rickety and the mattress was the cheapest of cheap and lessened the overall quality. It’s a cheap and cheerful hotel if they got some quality mattress’s it would be great

On arrival at the hotel we found out we were in the basement !! The window opened only slightly as the fire escape was in the way! I explained I'd chosen the hotel for views I had last time I stayed, but this was awful. Made even worse by the amount of stairs up and down to get to a basement room, not ideal when one of us has very limited mobility. The breakfast both days was till 10am, however when we got there before 9, everything was dried up, nothing fresh came out and the fruit and cheese was gone. Both days there were no pastures and the tables were grubby.

Overall stay was good, but the rooms heating wasn’t on when I arrived, admins are only radiators, and either on or off…. Gap under door which let the light through from the corridor all night, I ended up putting a pillar to cover the gap on the floor to try and stop most coming through. Service was amazing, as I forgot my toothbrush and they provided one free.

Our stay was lovely. The only beef I have is that you allow dogs in the bar. I have nothing against dogs but I don’t agree with them being in a bar or restaurant where you eat and drink, it is not hygieneic

Winter Break.

Stayed in the executive suite top floor ,view amazing .Few things needed in that room ,there is only one arm chair that had seen better days cushion was loosing all the feathers The settee was so low to sit on you couldnt see the lovely view of the sea.More mirrors need too.Grab rail needed in spa bath ..Wardrobe door wouldnt close .Heating is on a timer so if you want to be in youre room through the day it was very cold .We had to wrap up in bed throws. Staff very friendly in breakfast bar. The Poetic licence bar was nice but yet again so cold to sit in .

The receptionist was very helpful as our checkin was not until 3pm, but we had a family funeral to attend, completed check in even though room not ready. Meaning we could attend funeral and celebration of life at yacht club, walk up get bag out of car go to room.

A well positioned seaside hotel with a good vibe.

Our second stay here, good welcoming service. Had some lovely food in the tea room and enjoyed some small plates in the main bar. Hotel has a nice ambience in the public areas. Bit disappointed with the range of food now offered. Not as good as last year on daytime and evening menus but everything we ordered was tasty and well prepared. A few delays on cooked breakfast item availability on the second of our two days stay. A small inconvenience but still an inconvenience. I'd urge staff to ensure items are available throughout the breakfast service.

Have stayed at this property a number of times. While still a good hotel the standards seem to have fallen and servicing of rooms has been cut back to every thrid day.
