It’s a beautiful building right next to the train station and a few minutes walk to city centre The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. But the breakfast wasn’t good, especially considering the price they charged. It’s worse than Holiday Inn’s breakfast which is much cheaper. The raining shower didn’t work.

I have to admit this was one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. It was tastefully decorated, staff were friendly but not in your face and the feel was quiet luxury. The room was lovely too.

Only liked the close proximity to York city. We booked a Signature Studio Suite, City View . The room was 209 and it was dark , dingy , tired and grubby. The pillows were the cheap foam filled variety , the bedding itself was decent cotton quality. On arrival the room aircon had been set at 23 degrees which was far too hot for us and the aircon would not function to a setting below 19 degrees .As the windows were restricted from opening beyond a few inches we had a hot sleepless night .Breakfast was a pretty basic buffet with a lot of guests crammed into a corner of a big room queuing up to load their plates .To add insult to injury , we needed to use an hotel umbrella, we forgot ours, and were charged £2 for the privilege. I am sorry , but paying £318 to stay one night in what looked like a retirement home was the final insult.

Very dog friendly

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking is a bit of a nightmare as its so busy and not just for hotel guests. Hotel has some beautiful features. Our room was very large and comfortable, a little tired in places but that is the usual when you book a dog room. The dog bed and bowl was a nice touch. Food was very nice. I would 100% stay again.

Poor stay for price

For the price of the stay the hotel wasn’t up to standard. We paid for a double room and the bed was tiny. We had to go back to reception three times to get key working. Rooms very dated and basic.

Beautiful hotel areas

The reception area and areas in the hotel were amazing. The rooms some of the lamps didn’t work and under the bed wasn’t as clean as should be but still a very nice stay. Breakfast seemed warm but not hot

A brilliant stay. We've stayed at this hotel 3 times now in recent years and it's always a delight. The hotel itself is a magnificent building with marvellous architecture which includes a fantastic main staircase. Parking was convenient and the staff were everything you could ask. No problems in recommending, we're already talking about our next visit we yet have to plan.

Very comfortable city centre hotel

I first stayed here over 60 years ago when it was a faded but still grand part of British Transport Hotels. It has been sensibly upgraded and my room was both large and comfortable. The only real problem was in accessing it with heavy luggage as there is neither a ramp, an operating lift, a porter, or a doorman. The two lady receptionists gamely offered to help but my cases were far too heavy for me to let them even try.
